Vacation  time: check your PC

It’s not very common to even think about fixing your computer in such a way that it always performs efficiently. Usually we tend to take it for granted that it works properly, but like all machines, proper and periodic maintenance increases the lifespan of this essential object for all of us. Here are our tips for having a computer in great shape and ready to start again after the holidays.

With these little tricks you can make your computer even more efficient when you return from vacation. So here are the 5 things to do on your computer before vacation.

1. System and antivirus updates

Before you leave for your holidays make sure you have done all the updates to your computer. Check both system and security updates. This step is very important to avoid any nasty surprises when you return. For owners of computers with Windows operating system, we advise you to check the forums to see if in your absence there will be critical updates to do.

Free up your mobile phone memory and have more space for your photos on holiday.

2. Backup Your Computer Before Vacation

The second step is backup. It is best to make a copy of all the data on your computer before vacation, including documents and photos. Our advice is to have a copy of your data both on an external hard-disk and on an online cloud, such as Google Drive. We also recommend this step for your smartphone, so that you free up your mobile phone memory and have more space for your photos on holiday.

3. Cleaning

This is perhaps the most obnoxious of the 5 things to do at the PC before the holidays: cleaning. Like all objects, our computer also needs a little more thorough cleaning – especially now for sanitizing reasons. For the desktop computer it would be best to vacuum it to remove all the dirt in the house. This should clearly be done with the computer switched off and the power cables disconnected. All peripherals such as the mouse and keyboard should also be cleaned. Notebook owners, on the other hand, will be more fortunate to be able to clean it only from the outside. When you have done so, cover your computer with a dry cloth so that it does not catch dust.

4. Automatic Email

In order not to be interrupted during your well-deserved vacation, we recommend that you set up an automatic email that says that you are on vacation and that you will return on that day. This way you will avoid tedious annoyances from work calls due to your non-response to emails.

5. Disconnect your router and PC cable before your holidays

The last thing you need to do to fix your PC before the holidays is to unplug the router and computer cables. By doing so, you won’t risk any power surges burning your electronic devices. If you really can’t do without disconnecting them, we recommend using a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Source) or also called uninterruptible power supply, electrical equipment used to remedy sudden electrical anomalies.

These are the 5 things to do to your PC before the holidays that we at Advepa recommend you to do. In this way when you return from your holidays your computer will be ready and snappy.
